Chi sono e cosa faccio

Mi chiamo Francesco Zeni, ho 32 anni e sono il fondatore di Gate51 Boulder e Gate51 CrossFit. Amo lo sport per quello che puó offrire in termini di felicità e benessere e, attraverso il mio lavoro, cerco di creare un ambiente che migliori la qualità  della vita della nostra comunità. Mi occupo della gestione e organizzazione di tutto ció che riguarda le due strutture.

Lo stato dell’industria delle palestre di arrampicata in Italia

L’arrampicata indoor è in forte crescita in Italia, spinta da diversi fattori: la maggiore esposizione grazie alle Olimpiadi, l’interesse crescente verso sport outdoor e il desiderio di allenamenti funzionali e stimolanti. Vedo un futuro promettente per il settore, con sempre più strutture che nascono e un miglioramento generale dell’offerta, sia in termini di tracciatura che di servizi per gli atleti.

L’esperienza di apertura di Gate51 Boulder

L’apertura è stata un percorso complesso, con diverse difficoltà , come accade spesso in Italia quando si tratta di avviare un’attività. Gate51 è nato inizialmente come box CrossFit, poi ho avuto la possibilità di ampliare lo spazio e, affascinato dal mondo del boulder, ho deciso di portare avanti questo progetto. L’investimento è stato significativo e, con il continuo aumento dei costi dei materiali, aprire una nuova attività oggi è una vera sfida. Fortunatamente, la comunità  dell’arrampicata ha risposto con grande entusiasmo e supporto fin dall’inizio, il che ha reso tutto più gratificante.

Budget e finanziamento

Il progetto è stato autofinanziato in parte, con il supporto di un prestito bancario per coprire i costi aggiuntivi.

Il team e il supporto nella tracciatura

Ho avuto la fortuna di lavorare con Giacomo Busato (360Holds) come tracciatore principale, e con Enrico Campaner come istruttore. Entrambi hanno dato un contributo enorme alla realizzazione di Gate51 Boulder. Giacomo ha avuto un ruolo fondamentale nella scelta delle prese di apertura e nella creazione di un’esperienza di arrampicata coinvolgente per tutti i livelli.

Prossimi passi per Gate51 Boulder

Siamo ancora in fase di sviluppo, con nuove prese in arrivo e una tracciatura che cambia ogni tre settimane per offrire sempre nuovi stimoli ai climbers. Stiamo anche organizzando l’inaugurazione ufficiale, che includerà una piccola competizione.

Who I Am and What I Do

My name is Francesco Zeni, I’m 32 years old, and I am the founder of Gate51 Boulder and Gate51 CrossFit. I love sports for the happiness and well-being they can bring, and through my work, I strive to create an environment that enhances the quality of life in our community. I oversee the management and organization of everything related to both facilities.

The State of the Indoor Climbing Gym Industry in Italy

Indoor climbing is experiencing strong growth in Italy, driven by several factors: increased exposure thanks to the Olympics, growing interest in outdoor sports, and a rising demand for functional and stimulating workouts. I see a promising future for the industry, with more and more gyms opening and a general improvement in offerings, both in terms of route setting and services for athletes.

The Experience of Opening Gate51 Boulder

Opening the gym was a complex journey, with various challenges—something quite common in Italy when starting a business. Gate51 initially began as a CrossFit studio, but when the opportunity arose to expand the space, I was drawn to the world of bouldering and decided to pursue this project. The investment was significant, and with the continuous rise in material costs, opening a new business today is a real challenge. Fortunately, the climbing community responded with great enthusiasm and support from the very beginning, which made everything even more rewarding.

Budget and Financing

The project was partially self-financed, with additional costs covered by a bank loan.

The Team and Route Setting Support

I was fortunate to work with Giacomo Busato (360Holds) as the head route setter and Enrico Campaner as an instructor. Both played a crucial role in bringing Gate51 Boulder to life. Giacomo was instrumental in selecting the initial holds and creating an engaging climbing experience for all skill levels.

Next Steps for Gate51 Boulder

We are still in the development phase, with new holds arriving and a route-setting schedule that changes every three weeks to continuously offer fresh challenges for climbers. We are also organizing the official grand opening, which will include a small competition.
