New Elite Climbing Training Facility Completed in Spain

The Centro de Tecnificación Deportiva de Cáceres has recently completed a new elite training facility for the climbers of Team Spain, and invited athletes for camps and competition simulations. The centre cost approximately €3million and was funded by the Ministry of Culture. Named after Tokyo 2020 Gold Medallist Alberto Gines Lopez, it features 30 rope lines including steep lead climbing up to 17m, with suitably hard grades up to 9a, and a competition-standard bouldering wall. Installation of walls and matting were performed by Walltopia, whilst holds, storage, hold washroom and initial routesetting were provided by routesetterhouse and PunkSetter.

Whilst there is no current chief setter for the facility, it will be managed by the wider sports campus. We can expect global routesetting talent to be regularly contracted to keep Team Spain on top form ready for the IFSC World Cups and LA2028!
